Africa is commonly referred to as the mother land because it is where both Caribbeans and African Americans originally come from. In every aspect of their cultures there is a piece of Africa's culture, so it is important to understand how both groups got to where they are now: Africa is the birth place of all humanity. Years before it was discovered by outside nations Africa already had strong development in architecture,  engineering  mathematics, medicine, and politics. They were the most advanced continent in the world still amazing the world today with its unbelievable landmarks. Africa had strong empires that the world looked to as the richest and most powerful because of their international trading ability. Africa was powerful and established which is the opposite image that we are given in school. Growing up we are taught almost that Africa needed someone to save them because they were "uncivilized". They needed someone to show them how to function, but Africa was strong and powerful.

In the image below is what bought wealth to Africa: Gold. It is what allowed them to trade with place outside of their continent.
